Beached Whales & Pumpkin People

Thanksgiving Valley Weekend... Part II

Sunday morning was just plain rough. Advil and blueberry pancakes were on the breakfast menu. I spent most of the morning in a lay-z-boy chair nursing my hangover with caffeine. Stephen wasn't doing well at all either. In fact, he was a complete write-off and had to bail on the family church excursion. SHAMEFUL! ha ha

In an effort to redeem myself I did a massive pile of dishes and cleaned up while Matt, Darren, Stephen and Charles watched some ridiculous subtitled Thai movie. I wasn't feelin' it. It was tough going, but I figured that Stephen's mom had already done more than her fair share of waiting on us.

When they returned from church she started in the kitchen again, but not before telling Charles that his good friend David the organist said "Hello". lol Apparently he made quite an impression at the dance the night before. Luckily, he didn't exchange vows and rings again.

Sunday evening we had Thanksgiving dinner. Katherine's friend Tracy and the grandparents arrived to join us. Stephen decided to bless us all by having a pre-dinner shower. I was thankful. lol
Dinner was fantastic. I ate so much food I nearly exploded at the table. In my defence, it's not fair to keep that much cheesecake in one room. I had no choice. It hurt. I was exhausted, bloated and felt like a beached whale. So, I did more dishes and chatted with grandma. lol She loves me longtime. I think deep down I'm really just a 70 yr old woman.

After dinner came Sunday evening tv fest in the livingroom. We beached ourselves on whatever furniture could find to hold our monsterous bodies and watched Desperate Housewives while Charles attempted to bring Matt up to speed on the plot (shhh! during commercials!). Next came Brothers & Sister's, which I hadn't seen before. Fun times. Calista hasn't seen a Thanksgiving dinner in years. After Studio 60 and a nightcap.. err, 3 nightcaps we gave up and went to bed.

The next morning we began to pack up our things to head home. Stephen and I were the last to roll out later on that afternoon. Being the elderly men that we are, we decided to take Route 1 and enjoy the scenery.

We had no evening agenda to rush home to, so we took our time going through each of the small farming towns and communities along the way. We listened to tunes by Nina Simone while we spotted and commented on beautiful farms, endless apple orchards and random gays on the street. We were so thrilled with the scenery that we drove through Wolfville 3 times. Don't ask.

I quickly learned that the valley is pumpkin-obsessed. There were pumpkins EVERYWHERE! Kentville holds a contest every year for the residence to dress up their yards with pumpkin people, which was quite funny to see. They really go all out - one had an entire marching band and wedding party. lol There were people stopped along the side of the road taking pictures as well.
Everyone in the valley had a smile on their face. It likely had something to do with their full bellies, but maybe it was because they got a smiley coffee cup in Windsor like I did. Who knows? Tim Hortons Tina, you're doing a great job! :)

This was the perfect way to end our fantastic long weekend. I'm so thankful to the Terauds family for the great time and I hope to see them all again soon.

Stephen, thank you sooo much for letting me participate in your Thanksgiving business. he he

Love You Longtime

- Oh, I almost forgot to mention. After arriving we went for Chinese food and nearly exploded on Andrew's furniture. lol Some people never learn!
